Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11) - OCR Sport Studies

In Years 10 and 11, students have the option to select the OCR Sport Studies Cambridge Technicals qualification. This course is assessed with a focus on practical application, comprising 60% coursework units and 40% one external written examination. The coursework component involves two units: R185 Performance and Leadership in Sport (80 marks) and R186 Sport and the Media (40 marks). Students apply taught material to pre-set exam board assignments, which includes opportunities for practical assessment through performance in two sports, the development and execution of a personal development plan, and the planning, leading, and evaluation of a coaching session for their peers.

Sixth Form (Key Stage 5) - Sport and Physical Activity Extended certificate (Single A level)

Sixth Form students pursue the OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity, which is assessed through a combination of two examination units and three coursework units. Examination content covers Unit 1 Body Systems and the Effects on Physical Activity and Unit 3 Sport Organisation and Development. Coursework units include Unit 4 Sport Coaching and Activity Leadership, Unit 8 Organisation of Sport Events, and Unit 17 Sport Injuries and Rehabilitation. 

Sixth Form (Key Stage 5) - Sport and Physical Activity Diploma (Double A level)

New for 2026, students have the option of studying equivalent to two A levels with the OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity. This is made up with a combination of the five units from the Extended Certificate (Single A level) with an additional examination unit and a further five units. The examination unit covers Unit 4: Working Safely in Sport, Exercise, Health and Leisure. Coursework units include Unit 5: Performance Analysis in Sport and Exercise, Unit 11: Physical Activity for Specific Groups, Unit 18: Practical Skills in Sport and Physical Activities, plus two centre-selected optional units: Unit 19: Sport and Exercise Psychology and either Unit 13: Health and Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise or Unit 10: Biomechanics and Movement Analysis.
