Exam Results

Over recent years Redborne has consistently obtained some of the best examination results in the county.  This year (2018) saw the introduction of many reformed GCSEs and A levels.  Despite the uncertainty and turbulence many schools experienced, results at Redborne were similar to the usual high standards seen in previous years.  Our GCSE results were again excellent – they were one of the best in the local authority.  Our A Level and AS results are amongst our best ever; an improvement on last year’s that were judged “outstanding” by Ofsted.

School performance tables can be found at:

GCSE and equivalent

52 per cent of students achieved at least a grade 5 (a good pass) in both English and maths.  More students achieved this than last year and Redborne is significantly higher than the national rate last year.  Nearly three quarters of students achieved a standard pass, consistently high over the last four years.  Five students achieved 7 or more grade 9s, a total only achieved by just 732 students across the country.  33 students achieved A or grade 7 in 8 or more subjects. Many students achieved a value added score above the expected performance for similar students, 6 students were 20 grades or more higher.  On average, students gained a grade 5 (or equivalent) in all their subjects, considered by the government as a strong pass.

Many students are taking vocational qualifications with considerable success.  Last year, 48 students gained a full award in Agriculture.  Many others gained further successes in Catering, Music, Sport and ICT.  Students also achieved vocational awards in conjunction with Bedford College.

The vast majority of our students fulfilled their potential; around three fifths of these students have stayed on to the Sixth Form to follow A level or vocational courses.

A level and equivalent

Redbone’s sixth form is the largest in the area with over 50 more students taking A levels this year than other schools.  Over 55% of the grades obtained by our students were at A* - B (or equivalent) and a 100% pass rate at A level.  Twenty students achieved three A grades at A level or better with the average grade achieved by all students was a C+; up on last year and joint highest in Central Bedfordshire.
